Make Art not war

Updated: Sep 19, 2023

I've sat here for ages struggling to know what to say. It's day 12 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and each day the stories and pictures are more and more shocking. I'm trying to keep up-to-date with the news, we've donated to the disaster relief fund but generally I don't know what I can do to help. I listen to interviews with the Ukrainian citizens fleeing for the lives, watch on as our Government imposes sanctions, and hope with every fibre of my being that the corporate giants leaving Russia, the clamp down on oligarchs and the worldwide protests will all make the difference and bring to an end this shocking war.

For now, I'm going to let some art speak, here are a few remarkable pieces of Art that I love.

Illustration of a crying young woman with blue and yellow hair like the Ukrainian flag.

image similar to a stained glass window - a hand with a peace sign, surrounded by flowers all depicted in blue and yellow of Ukraine

Rectangle split horizontally in two, the top half is blue, the lower half yellow. A white box has the words Colour of the Year 2022 Pantone Ukraine.

Painted blue peace/CND symbol with a face at the centre and a teardrop of red. Underneath the word PEACE in yellow.

Arms holding a young woman with blue and yellow hair, a cat, dog, sleeping baby, plant and fish tank.

Line drawing of a Ukrainian woman spanking a naked Putin on his bum.
