I’m Katerina Meccano, a freelance graphic designer, artist, and illustrator with a passion for transforming hand-drawn sketches into polished, professional designs. My work blends hand-illustrated creativity with digital design, ensuring every piece is unique, meaningful, and as sustainable as possible. In the midst of a climate crisis, living in a world dominated by AI, I believe we can all do our bit and make a difference.
Graphic design is a generative process - whether it’s printed or digital - they use energy and create waste. I work as sustainably as possible - my studio has lots of natural light and my Mac gets switched off every night. My design process starts with hand-drawn sketches - the paper is then reused or recycled. The products in my store are printed on-demand onto FSC paper, or sustainably sourced fabrics. The inks are vegan and environmentally friendly and the paints I use at home are water based.
On the subject of AI, I’ve encountered clients who have used AI to create a logo and then found it is being used elsewhere (there is no copyright with AI), or the image is pixelated and not print-ready. The energy consumption, and resource depletion from the use of AI is shocking. As a result, many are shifting back to a more analogue approach. Sketching with a pencil on paper is how I connect to my creativity ensuring projects, such as hand-drawn logos, look and feel organic. Though my ideas start on paper, the final design is always professional, digital and unique.
